Best of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe @ Niza Knoll Gallery

Best of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe is an eclectic collection of artwork judged to be the best artwork shown in Denver’s thriving art district fromAugust 2013 to August 2014. The juried exhibition will be shown at Niza Knoll Gallery, 915 Santa Fe Drive, and the Skyline Station at 910 Arts, located at 910 Santa Fe Drive in Denver, from September 19 – November 8, 2014.  There are a few special events for the exhibit:

  • - The Best of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe Opening and Artist Reception is scheduled for September 19, from 5 – 9 p.m.
  • - On Friday, November 7, from 5 – 9 p.m., kick off Denver Arts Week by checking out the First Friday Art Walk, the final weekend of the exhibit and the People’s Choice Awards, where you can vote for your favorite pieces.
  • - The show’s Closing Gala and Awards will happen on Saturday, November 8.

Best of Denver’s Art District on Santa Fe features artwork a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, drawing and wearable. New this year, the show will also include the categories of movement, spoken word and music. This is one show you don’t want to miss. Check out the best from a year’s worth of exhibitions in Denver’s most popular artists’ hub.

Jurors are Michael Gadlin of ArtHaus, Dana Cain of Dana Cain Events, Hanna Ackerman of Swallow Hill, Randy Brooks of Cleo Parker Robinson and Allison Watrous of DCPA. They will judge artwork based on uniqueness, quality, overall execution and knowledge of medium. Emotional connection and the artist’s ability to clearly communicate will also be considered.

Mental Health Coaching with Thomas Ramey Watson

Starting two recurring coaching groups (times are not yet concrete, contact Thomas Watson for exact dates, though they will most likely be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays):

1.  for people who’ve lost their animal and/or human companions and need help dealing with it. DENVER, CO – This Halloween, Denver Union Station will kick off what is sure to become a spooktacular tradition when it hosts its inaugural Kids Halloween Parade and Party on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m.
All of Denver’s little creepy crawlies are invited to take part in the celebration which will feature trick-or-treating in the merchant shops, a costume parade through the Great Hall led by CBS4 morning anchor Britt Moreno, and a contest for prizes for best overall and best group/family costumes.
The Parade will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will march its way around the Plaza in front of Denver Union Station and inside through the Great Hall.  Prizes will be awarded at 6:30 p.m.
As kids strut their costumes, they will mingle with a variety of special guests including favorite Disney Princesses, Dracula on his freaky stilts, and a balloon twister, all while listening to Halloween party songs like Monster Mash performed by Billy Byrd’s Trio.
Valet parking at Denver Union Station is $10 with validation (parking tickets validated by all restaurants) and $20 for non-validated.  There are also several parking garages around Denver Union Station ranging in price from $15 to $20, as well as metered parking along Wynkoop.

MCA Denver is proud to present the first retrospective of the work of Mark Mothersbaugh from the beginning of his career in the early 1970s through the present. Known throughout the world as a founding member of the popular band DEVO, Mothersbaugh has been a prolific artist since before the band’s inception and continues to make art to this day. A creative polymath, Mothersbaugh’s diverse body of work includes drawings, sculptures, photographs, videos, prints and rugs.

BC3 Presents: A Rejuvenating & Therapeutic Day in Nature,Guided by Shelly Froehlich

Enjoy a fall day in nature, exploring, seeing, and conversing with creative expression. This event offers participants an opportunity to unplug from the fast-paced, stressful, and loud day-to-day routine. Get out into nature with like-minded people, hone observational skills, exercise creativity, mindfulness, and participate in a group therapeutic support circle. During group session we will discuss what is alive in the present moment. This is a holistic experience for the health and well being of one’s body, mind, and soul.

Participants are asked to bring their own water, food, camera, and journal. Please wear appropriate attire (hiking shoes, layers, etc.) and take whatever precautions you deem appropriate for a day in nature (insect repellent, sun screen, etc.). This group is limited to 8-10 people and is open to all people. We will respect the Leave No Trace principles, is a non-smoking, alcohol and drug-free event.

WHEN: Nov. 1, 2014. Meet at trailhead @ 9:00 a.m. We will be back down to parking lot on or before 3:00 pm
