Simpson’s creator Matt Groening has decided to end the comic strip that gained him notoriety – Life in Hell – as the strip’s earnings are down. The comic features three anthropomorphic rabbits and a gay couple–Akbar and Jeff.
Groening has been drawing the strip since 1977. At it’s peak “Life in Hell” was used in 380 publications but today the numbers have dwindled down to 38 so Groening has decided to call it quits after it’s final installment, which had a run of 1,669 strips.
In an email to Poynter Groening said, “I’ve had great fun, in a Sisyphean kind of way, but the time has come to let Binky and Sheba and Bongo and Akbar and Jeff take some time off.”
