Girls Heart Girls: a new place for women who love women in Boulder

Denver’s urban lesbian scene holds its own, but what about in Colorado’s own People’s Republic? Girls Heart Girls is the new social group for lesbian and bisexual women in Boulder.

From art nights and movie screenings to parties, Girls Heart Girls, catered to women between the ages of 20-40, hopes to engage like-minded women in Colorado for friendship and better visibility in town. “The main idea is to have events where people feel welcome and comfortable,” said Becky Guidera, one of the organizers of the group.

The creators of Girls Heart Girls hope to go above and beyond the norm.

“Colorado can do more in regards to streamlining the groups and events,” Guidera said. “By creating a couple groups as the ‘go-to’ lesbian and bi connections, women will be able to come together more efficiently and attend events and gatherings in higher numbers.”

Right now the organizers are working out the details to plan dinner nights, ladies’ night out, coffee dates, artistic outings and yes, the Boulderite ladies are even planning regular hiking excursions.

First Monday, the first planned recurring event, will have a focus on socializing and art, and GHG is looking to schedule other events with support from Out Boulder.

Girls Heart Girls welcomes “strong, independent young women [who want] to create a difference, meet new ladies and make wonderful and fun memories,” from all over the state, Guidera said.
