Girlz Pushing the Button to co-host fundraiser for fallen officer

The state’s largest organization for black lesbians will co-host a fundraiser with Denver Councilman Albus Brooks and state Rep. Angela Williams for the family of a slain police officer.

Celena Hollis died Sunday after being shot in the head while attempting to stop a fight.

The alleged gunman, Rollin Oliver, is in custody.

The fundraiser will at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 1 at eden.

“Officer Hollis was a friend and ally of the LGBT community and has always supported the mission of our organization,” Girlz Pushing the Button founder Nita Henry said. “She encouraged us to push community buttons wherever we could. She encouraged us to continue to illuminate and empower black women. This fundraiser is to support the 12-year-old daughter she leaves behind, so she, too, can push the button.”

eden is located at 3090 Downing. The fundraiser is set to end at 4 p.m.
